Kastro (The Castle)

This settlement of rare beauty is built on a fortified position, which sits upon a steep rock, in the eastern Sifnos. The residential area is structured in such a way, that the one house is the continuation of the other, so that they encircle the area in order of excluding the attempt ion of entrance or exit. The houses form “the wall” of the Castle, where in the past were useful to stop the advance of the enemies. There are still some remains of the classic fortification wall. The entrance in the main settlement was done (and is still done) by the lodges, the gates of the “Castle”, which was secured by gigantic doors that were guarded.
In the eastern side of the rock – and inside the sea – overhangs the church of Seven martyrs. Northwest (in front of Agnanti) dominates the row of the round or horseshoe shaped windmills. Right behind them dominate the twin churches of Saint Stefanos and Saint Ioannis. Over there ran the faculty of Sacrosanct Sepulcher.
Ten minutes on foot from Agnanti & Agnanti Traditional, there is Castle’s harbor. It’s called Seralia, which is a picturesque, rocky, fishery village. You may choose it for a special and unforgettable swim.
